Matthew Tkachuk and Brady Tkachuk are teaming up in Florida after the Panthers completed a significant trade. The Panthers finalized a deal with the Ottawa Senators, acquiring Brady in exchange for four draft picks. The deal includes the No. 9 pick in this year’s draft, Tampa Bay’s first-round pick (previously acquired by Florida), the Panthers’ second-round pick in 2027, and a top-10-protected first-round pick in 2029. Florida adds a high-caliber player to their lineup without losing any top scorers from last season.
Bill Zito, the Panthers’ president and general manager, expressed his excitement: “Brady is a dynamic competitor and one of the most physical and relentless forwards in the league. A proven leader, he improves everyone around him both on and off the ice. We’re thrilled to welcome Brady to South Florida as we continue our pursuit of championship hockey.”
Brady Tkachuk has spent all eight years of his NHL career with Ottawa. Now, he joins his brother Matthew, an Olympic teammate and podcast co-host, in Florida, where Matthew has played for four years. Matthew has won two Stanley Cups and reached the Final three times with the Panthers. The Athletic first reported the trade news.
Brady Tkachuk has two seasons remaining on a seven-year, $57.56 million contract signed in 2021, the same year he became Ottawa’s captain. Despite recent trade rumors, he voiced his commitment to Ottawa until now.
“This was not a decision we took lightly, but ultimately we did what we felt was best for the long-term future of our hockey club,” commented Senators general manager Steve Staios. “We now possess cap space and draft capital and will be actively working to improve our roster.”
The Tkachuks have long desired to play together, having competed for USA Hockey at the 4 Nations Face-Off in 2025 and the Milan Cortina Olympics. Their parents are frequent attendees at Panthers games, and Brady has ties with several in the Florida organization. Zito was involved with USA Hockey, while Panthers equipment manager Teddy Richards worked with the Olympic team as well.
Brady captained Ottawa for five seasons, leading the team in numerous categories during his tenure. He recorded 213 goals, 463 points, 62 power-play goals, 2,202 shots, 1,921 hits, 28 winning goals, 30 multigoal games, and 821 penalty minutes.
With the acquisition of Brady Tkachuk, Florida strengthens its lineup with established players like Aleksander Barkov, Aaron Ekblad, and Sam Reinhart. The team aims for further Stanley Cup victories, with Brady positioned to potentially secure his name on the coveted trophy in upcoming seasons.
