The creators of the popular animated series, South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, recently satirized President Donald Trump’s executive decision to rename Lake Ontario to Lake America. The decision received mixed reactions, which even extended to tech giants Apple Maps and Google Maps complying with the name change.
In a tongue-in-cheek statement, Parker and Stone humorously expressed gratitude. “Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA. We especially want to thank our parent company, Paramount—a Skydance Capitulation,” they said via a post on the platform X.
This mock announcement followed the series’ win of an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program for its 27th season premiere in 2025. The episode included a controversial plotline featuring Trump in bed with Satan, discussing alleged ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
The episode also parodied Trump’s settlement with CBS and its parent company, Paramount Global, which involved a $1.5 billion agreement to stream the show on Paramount+ in 2025.
President Trump’s executive order to rename the Great Lake followed tensions related to U.S.-Canada trade relations. Trump’s order stated, “The United States is the greatest protector of the Great Lakes, including the body of water currently known as Lake Ontario.” The aim was to emphasize the security and investment provided by the United States.
After the order, both Apple and Google updated their maps. U.S. users saw Lake America on their screens, while Canadian users still saw Lake Ontario. For international users, both names were visible.
Similar changes occurred after another executive order in 2025 when Trump instructed the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
