Stella Parton, sister to the late Dolly Parton, shared heartfelt reflections on Dolly’s readiness and tranquility in her final moments after her battle with cancer. In an exclusive interview with Gayle King, Stella expressed, “I know she was at peace.” She had always been able to discern Dolly’s emotions, whether joyful or sorrowful, even when observing her from afar.
As fans continue to mourn the loss of Dolly Parton, who was renowned for her achievements in music and business, Stella remembers her simply as a big sister. The sisters maintained a weekly tradition, speaking over coffee every Tuesday morning. Stella noted, “She knew where she was goin’,” referring to Dolly’s belief in joining their parents in peace.
Recalling Dolly’s early days, Stella shared memories from RCA Studio A in Nashville, where Dolly recorded several iconic songs. Dolly’s career unfolded like a remarkable journey beginning from a modest upbringing in Tennessee.
Dolly was married to Carl Thomas Dean, a quiet man devoted to her throughout their nearly 60-year marriage. Stella described his affection for Dolly, “He adored her.” Carl appreciated her humor but preferred a simpler lifestyle, seeing Dolly in her domestic setting, relaxed and casual.
After Carl’s passing in March of the previous year, Dolly felt profound sadness, but Stella doesn’t attribute this to Dolly’s illness. “She worked so hard,” Stella noted, highlighting Dolly’s continuous dedication to her work till the end.
A savvy businesswoman, Dolly Parton kept her political views private, as mentioned by Stella. Her public image was carefully maintained, notable even in private moments, as Stella never saw her sister without makeup.
While support flowed following Dolly’s death, Stella expressed disappointment about not receiving condolences from her Nashville connections, which could be linked to her political activism online.
Stella cherishes Dolly’s optimism, saying, “She was the most optimistic person I ever knew.” She hopes Dolly will be remembered for her kindness and talent, inspiring young individuals to pursue their dreams, regardless of their backgrounds.
Her creativity had no bounds, and she could dream bigger than anybody. She gave us permission to dream that way.
