Sports commentator Stephen A. Smith openly criticized former first lady Jill Biden during a recent episode of his podcast, identifying her public statements as detrimental to the Democratic Party’s image. On his “Straight Shooter” podcast, Smith discussed Jill Biden’s promotion of her memoir, “View From the East Wing.”
Jill Biden was initially supportive of President Joe Biden’s health during the 2024 campaign. However, in her book, she disclosed thinking he had a stroke during the debate against President Donald Trump. Smith remarked on how commentators publicly likened Joe Biden to an elderly patient, yet Jill Biden publicly praised his performance.
“You had commentators literally say on national television, he looked like an elderly patient in a nursing home waiting for his applesauce to be fed to him,” Smith stated. “And this woman, his wife, the former first lady, goes out there in front of the microphones with the cameras working and say, ‘You were wonderful. You answered all the questions.’ Really? Really?”
Smith expressed concern about Jill Biden’s timing in admitting her doubts, emphasizing the upcoming midterm elections. He questioned the impact of her candid remarks on the Democratic Party’s strategies.
“With gubernatorial and mayoral races coming up, and the midterms approaching, you’re going to admit on behalf of the Democratic Party that there was dishonesty,” Smith commented. “And you think that’s going to help y’all win? What am I missing?”
Smith insisted he wasn’t being anti-Democrat. Instead, he argued he was advocating for strategies to help the party succeed and avoid looking dishonest.
Jill Biden, in her memoir, acknowledged that both she and Joe Biden realized the debate was poorly handled, although she initially praised his performance publicly. This admission, according to Smith, could embolden Republicans to contest in traditionally Democratic regions.
Fox News Digital sought a response from Biden’s office but had not received one at the time of reporting.
