Stephen A. Smith Warns Against Politics Influencing Sports

Smith Show” at the Fanatics Fest sports convention in New York City, he urged listeners to prevent politics from disrupting sports.
Smith addressed the political tensions surrounding WNBA star Caitlin Clark. He cautioned against allowing divisiveness to dominate conversations, underlining the importance of keeping politics separate from sports.
“This is America, baby. This is America — for all the divisiveness, for all the problems, for everything that we endure,” he said. “Bottom line is this: people from all over the world want to get here, because it’s the land of opportunity.”
Smith criticized politicians who, in his view, inject politics into the sporting world, potentially causing further divides. He referenced NBA commissioner Adam Silver’s comments about the Clark debate, labeling it “political ping pong.” Smith warned that political figures might exploit racial angles to foster division.
He urged NBA players and leaders, including Clark, to unify against political encroachment. Smith called for a collective effort to resist divisive tactics, emphasizing that Clark is not an adversary but rather a player who contributes positively to the sport.
Smith further appealed to lawmakers to focus on their political duties instead of interfering with sports.
“Go up on Capitol Hill and do your job. Stop trying to sit up there and get in the way of regular folks out here just trying to work hard, earn an honest living and live their life. Go do your damn job.”
Prominent figures have voiced their opinions on Clark’s situation. Rep. Tim Burchett criticized the treatment Clark receives, describing it as “pathetic.” Meanwhile, Rep. Brandon Boyle engaged in an online exchange regarding the WNBA’s marketing efforts for Clark.
Even former President Donald Trump entered the discussion. Trump praised Clark’s talents while condemning a foul committed against her by Alyssa Thomas, which led to Thomas’s suspension.
“I thought she was treated rather rough, if you want to know the truth,” Trump remarked on the incident.
Smith’s ongoing critique covers various political perspectives, including criticism of Trump regarding sports and commentary on democratic socialism within the Democratic Party.
