Stranger Saves Las Vegas Family from House Fire
A stranger has been hailed as a hero for saving a Las Vegas family from a predawn house fire before disappearing without revealing his identity.
The unknown man alerted the family by pounding on their front door and shouting “Fire!” before attempting to combat the flames with a garden hose. He managed to escape without anyone learning his name.
The fire erupted shortly before 5 a.m. on July 5 in the Las Vegas Valley. Surveillance footage shows the blaze engulfing the backyard, leading the family to seek the hero for a proper thank you.
Danna Shabtai, the homeowner, shared her experience with Fox News Digital. She recounted asking neighborhood children to refrain from fireworks after a July 4 celebration before heading to bed.
Hours later, at 4:51 a.m., Shabtai woke to a frantic doorbell ring and pounding. Her dog barked, alerting her of the situation. “I opened the door and the gentleman was yelling, ‘Fire! Fire!'” she said.
The stranger pointed to a wall of flames in the backyard, prompting Shabtai’s sister to grab a garden hose for firefighting while Shabtai rushed to alert neighbors.
She banged on windows and doors, urging neighbors to evacuate. Meanwhile, the stranger attempted to contain the flames using a neighbor’s hose.
Shabtai believes his actions prevented a more tragic outcome. “If he wasn’t driving by at that time, it would have been pretty dire before we noticed the fire,” she stated.
The family is leveraging social media to identify the man and express their gratitude. “You’re an angel,” Shabtai said to the anonymous hero. “You saved our lives, and we appreciate what you did.”
Shabtai suspects the fire originated after fireworks continued despite her request for cessation. A glowing ember likely drifted from a neighbor’s property and ignited the blaze after smoldering for hours.
Officials have yet to confirm the cause of the fire. In the aftermath, Shabtai took to Facebook to credit the passerby for saving multiple lives and urged caution with fireworks.
She expressed frustration over the incident, saying, “This guy saved our lives. Next year I’ll be ready with my garden hose.”
Despite remaining in their home, Shabtai noted others faced displacement due to fire damage. “Neighbors are displaced now because of fireworks,” she wrote.
Fox News Digital reached out to the North Las Vegas Fire Department for further information but has not received any updates.
