Student Injured in Warner Robins High School Shooting

On a Wednesday afternoon, a student was injured in a shooting at a high school in Warner Robins, Georgia. Authorities confirmed that a 14-year-old student is in custody.

The Houston County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident at Warner Robins High School. Initially, they mentioned two injuries, but Sheriff Matt Moulton later clarified that one student was hurt. The injured student was taken to a local hospital.

An argument between two ninth-grade students in the school’s bathroom escalated, leading one to shoot the other. The shooter fled but was later captured in a nearby neighborhood.

Sheriff Moulton confirmed the shooting occurred at around 2:15 p.m. local time. The officials have not disclosed how the teenager obtained the firearm or the potential legal consequences he faces.

As a safety measure, Warner Robins High School will remain closed for the rest of the week. While staff will not attend on Thursday, the school’s crisis team will be available on Friday and Monday to provide support.

Warner Robins is located about 100 miles south of Atlanta. In response to the incident, local and state officials expressed their concerns and gratitude for the swift response of law enforcement.

Warner Robins Mayor, LaRhonda W. Patrick, conveyed her community’s sorrow by writing on Facebook. She emphasized the broad impact on students, faculty, and parents and thanked public safety officers for their quick response.

Governor Brian Kemp, on X, praised the rapid actions of responders and highlighted their role in maintaining safety in classrooms.

Senator Raphael Warnock also expressed gratitude towards law enforcement and first responders, stating his prayers are with the injured student.
