The 2026 Texas Senate race is heating up. Ken Paxton, the Republican nominee, faces Democratic challenger James Talarico. Paxton’s personal life has gained attention after a published report by The Daily Mail. The report included photos and videos of Paxton with another woman in Reykjavik, Iceland. This comes amid his ongoing divorce from his wife, Angela Paxton, a Texas state senator.
Despite the salacious nature of the report, Talarico, the Democratic contender, focused on broader issues. Posting on social media, Talarico linked the tabloid story to Paxton’s alleged corruption and disconnect from average Texans. He highlighted Paxton’s luxurious lifestyle juxtaposed with Texans’ financial struggles. “Ken Paxton was impeached for taking bribes from donors,” Talarico stated, alluding to Paxton’s 2023 impeachment on corruption charges. Although Paxton was acquitted by the State Senate, the allegations continue to shadow him.
Talarico did not comment directly on Paxton’s personal relationships. Instead, he painted a picture of Paxton as self-serving, citing the lavish Iceland vacation as evidence. Talarico’s strategy shifted attention from personal scandal to public service and affordability, resonating with voters concerned about economic issues.
Paxton has not publicly addressed the tabloid allegations. The divorce trial, initially scheduled for this month, has been postponed, leaving questions about his personal life unanswered.
Meanwhile, a recent New York Times/Siena poll shows the Senate race is tightly contested. Both Paxton and Talarico have the support of 47 percent of Texas voters. The allegations and public reactions play a significant role as the campaign progresses.
