Teenager Critically Ill After Attempting Dangerous Social Media Challenge
An Oklahoma teenager is in a critical condition following an attempt at a viral social media challenge known as the ‘Benadryl challenge.’ This challenge has led to several hospitalizations of children.
The challenge encourages individuals to ingest large quantities of Benadryl, aiming to achieve a high by fighting the drug-induced drowsiness. The risks are significant, including seizures and cardiac arrest.
Fifteen-year-old Leah Presson is currently receiving treatment in an Oklahoma intensive care unit. Reports from local news outlet KFOR indicate that medical tests show no brain activity.
Her father, Richard Presson, expressed his distress, saying, “I don’t even want to think about a funeral because I feel like there’s still hope and everybody’s like, giving up too soon… I believe in miracles, that she’s definitely a miracle baby.”
He urged parents and guardians to educate their children about these challenges and referred to them as silly. He stressed the importance of awareness to prevent future incidents.
This is a developing story. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
