Sixteen teenagers were arrested and charged with trespassing at the closed Congress Theater in Chicago’s Logan Square on Friday. This followed a police response to a report of criminal trespass at around 8:15 p.m.
According to Chicago police, two of the teenagers were also cited for possession of replica firearms. Officers arrived to find multiple teenagers attempting to escape the scene. All were detained.
This incident comes nearly a week after police interrupted an unsanctioned rave at the same location. The event was organized by DJ Kula, a figure known for hosting underground raves across various city spots, such as the Jackson Red Line station, the vacant Portage Theater, and the former Damen Silos.
Reports from Block Club Chicago detailed that hundreds attended the recent Logan Square rave. The Congress Theater has drawn attention as a favored site among urban explorers, frequently appearing in social media posts that showcase its dark and dilapidated interior.
