Incident at the Garden’s Fountain
A fountain located in the German-American Friendship Garden, between the White House and the Washington Monument, has suffered significant damage. Images reveal large segments of stonework displaced around the fountain, creating a noticeable hole at its center. Orange safety cones have been placed around the affected area.
The damage was caused when a contractor vehicle inadvertently drove over the center of the fountain. Protective barriers surrounding the fountain had been moved, leading to multiple cracks. Repair efforts are currently underway.
Location and Background of the Garden
This garden, situated on the Washington Monument grounds, is a key feature of the National Mall. It was established in 1988 to mark 300 years of German immigration to the United States. Its design includes landscapes from both Germany and the U.S., alongside seating areas and prominent fountain features.
