The Raiders franchise began in Oakland, California, on January 30, 1960. As a founding member of the American Football League (AFL), the Raiders transitioned to the National Football League (NFL) when the leagues merged in 1970.
In 1982, the franchise relocated and became the Los Angeles Raiders, staying there until 1994. Prior to the start of the 1995 season, the Raiders returned to Oakland, where they played until 2020.
The NFL approved the Raiders’ move to Las Vegas in 2017, and the team officially relocated in 2020. Throughout their history, the Raiders have secured three Super Bowl titles. Their first victory came in 1976 during Super Bowl XI, led by the legendary head coach John Madden. Their success continued with wins in 1980 (Super Bowl XV) and 1983 (Super Bowl XVIII), though Madden was not the coach for these triumphs.
Currently, the Raiders compete in the AFC West division. Their rivals include the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, and Los Angeles Chargers.
