On May 17, 2026, thousands gathered on the National Mall in Washington for a significant gathering titled ‘Rededicate 250.’ This event was organized to honor the 250th anniversary of the nation. Supporters viewed it as a show of faith in America, while critics saw it as merging religion with politics.
Former Trump administration officials, conservative Christian leaders, and musicians participated in this event. Attendees described it as a chance to ‘solemnly rededicate our country as One Nation Under God.’ People came from across the nation, expressing concerns about a decline in religious values.

Debra DeGuiseppi from Minnesota shared her belief of a spiritual decline in the country. ‘There’s spiritual forces that are seeking to destroy our nation,’ DeGuiseppi stated, referring to a ‘spiritual attack’ on the nation.
Joe Johnson, who journeyed from Asheville, North Carolina, attended because he believed faith is crucial for the country’s future. ‘Without God, we’d go nowhere,’ he said, stressing the necessity of faith.
The event included speeches from notable figures like Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La. Over a dozen Christian faith leaders and a rabbi also addressed the crowd.

Critics like Rev. Paul Brandeis Raushenbush, CEO of the Interfaith Alliance, argued that the event presented a limited perspective of American religious identity. ‘This is an opportunity for America to celebrate the diversity of our religious heritage,’ he commented. Raushenbush expressed concern that ‘Rededicate 250’ focused on one main tradition.
Hermon Barbe and his son traveled from Michigan to join the event. The gathering mirrored the Trump administration’s past integration of religious symbols in public life, such as Oval Office prayer circles and efforts against anti-Christian bias.
‘Rededicate 250’ was organized by Freedom 250, a Trump-supported public-private group. They plan various events throughout the summer leading up to the nation’s 250th anniversary.
