Tim Ream, the captain of the U.S. men’s national soccer team, is setting high aspirations for the upcoming World Cup. At 38 years old, Ream is forthright about his ambitions for the team: winning the World Cup. He emphasized the importance of embracing this goal without holding back.
“The mindset is let’s win the thing. Let’s win the World Cup,” Ream told Fox News Digital.
The United States reached the Round of 16 during the 2022 World Cup, despite limited experience. Ream emphasizes that the current team builds on past experiences, aiming to strive for victory from the start of their training.
Ream described his selection process for the World Cup squad as relatively drawn-out compared to 2022. He felt relief after being officially named to the team, after weeks of anticipation. This was a significant moment for the St. Louis native, reflecting on how his efforts since 2022 have been validated.
“I dropped everything and called my wife, and I choked up,” Ream shared, describing the mix of relief and accomplishment.
As the United States hosts the World Cup, Ream acknowledged the unique feeling of playing on home soil. However, he maintains that the level of pressure and expectation remains constant regardless of location.
“It’s a World Cup. It doesn’t matter where you’re playing it. The expectations and the pressure are going to be there,” Ream asserted.
At 38, Ream remains uncertain about his future in future World Cups but focuses on fully engaging with the present experience. He plans to reconsider his next steps after the tournament concludes.
Apart from soccer, Ream partners with Goodnites, an underwear brand addressing childhood bedwetting. Having experienced this himself, Ream works to remove the stigma and reassure children and families that bedwetting is common.
“I don’t need to feel ashamed, it doesn’t define who I am,” Ream said, highlighting the importance of removing shame from the conversation.
As a father of three, Ream often normalizes this experience for his children, promoting confidence and a restful night’s sleep.
