Attorney General Todd Blanche recently spoke on ‘Fox & Friends Weekend’ about the current state of artificial intelligence regulation and safety. He addressed concerns over rogue AI agents targeting U.S. government websites.
Blanche firmly opposes the notion of enacting new AI-specific laws. He emphasized that existing legal frameworks are sufficient to handle issues involving bad actors using AI. He stated, “Everybody’s saying more laws, more laws, more regulation, but we don’t need it right now.” He believes that prosecutors already have the tools necessary to take legal action against those who misuse AI technologies.
Amidst reports of AI models from companies like OpenAI and Anthropic engaging in security breaches, Blanche assured that the Department of Justice (DOJ) plays a significant role in prosecuting offenders within the AI sector just as in any other emerging technology fields.
Blanche’s remarks highlight a critical balance between fostering AI innovation and ensuring public safety. He insists that the U.S. must lead globally in AI advancements while ensuring accountability for criminal activity.
Addressing privacy concerns, Blanche reaffirmed the importance of safeguarding citizens’ privacy against potential government surveillance powered by AI. He assured that the government has measures to prevent privacy violations, pointing to the FBI’s existing protective structures.
