Tragic Accident at Six Flags Over Georgia
A tragic event occurred at Six Flags Over Georgia when Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, a 42-year-old Atlanta resident, died after falling from the Goliath roller coaster. The accident has sparked an investigation into the incident.
Kariem was discovered by officers beneath the ride, unresponsive and not breathing. This prompted the Major Crimes Unit of the Cobb County Police Department to secure the scene and initiate an extensive inquiry.
Six Flags has expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to Kariem’s family and others affected.
Investigation Details
“We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park yesterday. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends.” – Six Flags
The investigation is ongoing, with police working to understand the circumstances that led to Kariem’s ejection from the coaster. No conclusive cause has been identified yet, and authorities are examining all aspects of the ride’s operation.
Bolliger & Mabillard Coaster Designs
Bolliger & Mabillard, a reputable Swiss roller coaster design company, manufactured the Goliath coaster. Known for their reliable designs, B&M has an impressive safety record, although every individual incident needs thorough investigation.
Professor Brian Avery from the University of Florida highlighted the importance of examining each ride incident closely, considering factors such as ride condition, operation, and evidence.
B&M designs feature individual lap restraints, keeping riders secure while allowing freedom in the upper body. Despite the design’s intentions, failures may arise due to rider size, seating position, or improper restraint fit.
Ride Closures Across Six Flags Locations
Due to precautionary measures, Six Flags temporarily shut down nine rides manufactured by B&M. These rides were located in various parks, including Six Flags Great America and King’s Island.
The rides affected by these closures include:
- Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain
- Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America
- Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure
- Fury 325 at Carowinds
- Thunder Striker at Carowinds
- Orion at Kings Island
- Diamondback at Kings Island
- Leviathan at Canada’s Wonderland
- Behemoth at Canada’s Wonderland
Current Status at Six Flags Over Georgia
Despite the accident, Six Flags Over Georgia is open. However, the Goliath coaster, along with other select rides, remains closed. Guests should check for available attractions before visiting.
