Transgender Employees Sue Over Insurance Plan Changes

In a move earlier this year, the Trump administration instructed insurance providers to remove coverage for gender transition care from federal employee insurance plans. On Monday, this decision faced legal challenges as transgender federal employees filed a lawsuit against the administration.

The group of five workers, supported by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, claims that the Office of Personnel Management’s directive to exclude gender transition coverage violates Title VII protections against sex discrimination.

The lawsuit highlights the severity of the denial by comparing it to restricting insulin treatments for individuals with diabetes, emphasizing the essential nature of the care being denied.
