Trevor Bauer is returning to Mexico, underscoring Major League Baseball’s persistent reluctance to reintegrate him, despite his pitching prowess. Once a remarkable force in the Atlantic League with the Long Island Ducks—where he smashed franchise strikeout records and achieved a seven-inning no-hitter—the 35-year-old pitcher is headed back to the Diablos Rojos.
Bauer’s impressive stint with the Ducks featured a 5-1 record, a 2.36 ERA, and 66 strikeouts compared to just seven walks over 42 innings. Even with his stellar performance, MLB teams remain uninterested, prompting his return to the Mexican club where he recorded a perfect 10-0 performance during a dominant 2024 season.
“Trevor Bauer throws no-hitter for Long Island Ducks in just his second U.S. start since 2021,” a testament to his continuing skill.
As a former Cy Young Award winner from the 2020 National League, Bauer’s journey has been impacted by a league suspension that significantly changed his career path. Initially handed a 324-game suspension by MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, it was later reduced to 192 games by an independent arbitrator, costing Bauer approximately $37.5 million from his contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Despite being released and paid out, he never returned to their lineup.
The controversy that culminated in this suspension began with accusations from Lindsey Hill. Although widely reported at first, public perception shifted when revealing evidence emerged. Text messages indicated Hill’s intention to target a wealthy athlete for financial gain. The legal battle eventually concluded with a zero-dollar settlement, with neither party compensating the other.
While legal matters have been resolved, Bauer’s route back to Major League Baseball remains obstructed. MLB teams persist in utilizing underperforming pitchers, promising fans every attempt is made to secure victories; this glaring contradiction becomes harder to overlook. Bauer, who has not appeared in MLB since playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021, continues to forge his own path.
Through wins in Japan, impressive displays in Mexico, and a successful appearance with the Ducks, Bauer tirelessly advances his professional endeavors, even using his digital channels to rebuild his public persona. Despite these efforts, he finds himself back in Mexico City, pursuing a journey that keeps him away from MLB.
