Trump Addresses Astronauts, Honors Artemis II Crew
President Donald Trump engaged with American astronauts on the International Space Station during a call from NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. Earlier, he had recognized the Artemis II crew.
During the call, Trump humorously stated that while many Americans aspire to travel to space, he personally would not pursue it.
The astronauts expressed their enthusiasm in speaking with the President. They shared that they were actively involved in spacewalks, with additional plans for the following week.
Trump lauded the astronauts as pioneers in space exploration. He invited other officials to join the conversation and proposed a future meeting at the White House for the returning astronauts.
Earlier, Trump awarded the Artemis II crew the Congressional Space Medal of Honor. He signed an executive order to establish the U.S. Space Force Academy, aiming to match the prestige of other U.S. military academies.
In attendance at the ceremony were Kevin Hassett, director of the National Economic Council, and NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman.
