President Trump expressed optimism regarding recent discussions with his Special Ambassador, Jon Voight, about revitalizing Hollywood. Trump shared details of their meeting on his Truth Social platform, highlighting Voight’s commitment to improving the Motion Picture and Television Industry.
According to Trump, Voight, along with Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone, are spearheading efforts to rejuvenate Hollywood, which has seen substantial industry migration to countries like Canada. Trump emphasized the negative impact this has had on California, describing Hollywood’s current state as a “Complete and Total Disaster.”
Hollywood is a Complete and Total Disaster!Trump stated. There is no incentive to be there, and it is hurting California very badly.
In May 2025, Voight proposed a plan to Trump focused on introducing federal tax incentives to encourage domestic film and television production. Trump believes this initiative could dramatically increase revenue for the U.S. Treasury.
Industry Support
The Motion Picture Association’s CEO Charles Rivkin expressed support for Trump’s proposal. In a statement, he acknowledged the historic role of American film and television, noting that federal incentives could enhance the nation’s economic competitiveness.
A federal incentive would be a landmark step toward bringing more production to local communities in all 50 states.Rivkin said.
Trump announced the Special Ambassadors program shortly before his second term inauguration. This initiative aims to revitalize Hollywood by appointing Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone as special envoys. Their role involves providing insights to Trump to restore Hollywood’s prominence.
Voight’s comprehensive plan, developed with advisor Steven Paul, involves amendments to tax codes and establishing co-production treaties with foreign nations. It also suggests infrastructure subsidies and focuses on job training.
Kush Desai, a White House Spokesman, indicated that President Trump collaborated with his Hollywood ambassadors on this plan. Desai mentioned Trump’s strategic use of tariffs as part of the “Make Hollywood Great Again” initiative.
Efforts to implement this strategy are ongoing, with policy advisors reviewing the proposal. Actions aim to make the U.S. a prime choice for film and television production once more.
