President Donald Trump has announced his intent to report NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ host Kristen Welker to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). This decision comes after Welker described Trump’s primary endorsement record as generating mixed results.
Trump took to Truth Social to express his dissatisfaction. He argued that Welker inaccurately portrayed his endorsement outcomes, citing successes of Darline Graham and Mike Mazzei. Trump claimed these victories represent a strong endorsement track record, with a 100% success rate in the U.S. Senate and 98% in the U.S. House.
Trump questioned the validity of Welker’s statement, suggesting it was inappropriate for public airwaves. He outlined his perspective, attaching results to his post. Due to what he called ‘purposeful inaccuracy,’ he stated Welker would face reporting to the FCC for potential reprimand.
NBC News has supported Welker, endorsing her capabilities as a ‘Meet the Press’ moderator. A spokesperson confirmed her professionalism, backing her amid Trump’s criticism.
Welker’s remark about mixed results was made during a live appearance before the ‘Meet the Press’ broadcast. She anticipated Trump’s influence in upcoming midterms, referencing Darline Graham’s primary victory as a notable endorsement achievement.
Brian Stelter from CNN reacted to Trump’s pronouncement, labeling it an effort to utilize the FCC against a journalist over unfavorable comments. Stelter clarified that the FCC has no authority to penalize Welker based on content they disapprove.
According to the Fox News Trump Primary Endorsement Tracker, Trump-backed candidates succeeded in 24 Republican Senate primaries and 214 out of 218 House primaries. This data presents a 100% Senate success rate and approximately 98% House success rate.
Trump identified two recent victories, emphasizing Graham’s win over Rep. Ralph Norman in South Carolina, and Mike Mazzei’s victory in Oklahoma’s gubernatorial nomination. Nonetheless, five candidates he endorsed were defeated, including political figures such as Pamela Evette and Mike Lindell.
Trump has appealed to FCC Chairman Brendan Carr about taking his concerns earnestly, hinting at the press as a national threat. Carr has previously suggested news distortion might impact license renewals, although the FCC requires intentional misrepresentation for action.
Fox News Digital has reached out to the FCC for a statement, but no response has been provided as of the article’s publication.
