President Donald Trump has labeled the New York Times’ report on the Iran conflict as “treasonous” on his social media platform, Truth Social. He plans to include the article in his lawsuit against the newspaper. Trump criticized the Times for using ‘fake and made-up facts’ in covering the situation in Iran.
Trump has had ongoing disputes with the media and has filed a $15 billion defamation lawsuit against the Times previously. Although a judge dismissed the initial complaint citing unwieldy wording, Trump filed an amended version later. This new legal document lists several defendants, including the newspaper, its publisher, and key reporters.
The president’s recent comments followed criticism of a Times analysis suggesting months of conflict hadn’t significantly altered Iran’s strategic landscape. Trump contends Iran’s military and economic infrastructure has been severely damaged. The New York Times has dismissed Trump’s lawsuit as an attempt to hinder independent journalism.
In an earlier post, Trump reacted to another Times article questioning the impact of the months-long conflict. He insists that Iran’s military capabilities have been nearly annihilated, inflation has surged, and economic stability has been compromised. Trump also highlighted positive trends in the U.S. stock market and employment rates.
Newsweek reached out to Trump’s and the New York Times’ legal representatives through email outside normal business hours. Trump’s past legal actions against other media outlets, including ABC News and CBS News, were settled out of court. His lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal addressed reports on his connection with Jeffrey Epstein.
