A National Park Service engineer reported peeling of the new lining days after completion. Despite concerns about vulnerability to peeling, the contractor did not acknowledge risks in the field.

Following the dismissal, Hearn’s attorneys criticized the government’s handling of the case, labeling it an abuse of power. They requested an apology from the administration, arguing that Hearn, a patriotic American, was wrongfully prosecuted.
