Trump’s Endorsement of Pamela Evette
President Donald Trump offered his support to Pamela Evette, South Carolina’s lieutenant governor, in the GOP gubernatorial primary race. Evette faces competition from U.S. Congresswoman Nancy Mace and several others.
Polls indicate Evette is currently leading. Trump has previously opposed Mace but endorsed her for reelection in 2024, praising her as a “strong conservative voice.”
Trump praised Evette on Truth Social, highlighting her loyalty and support. He also mentioned that his son, Henry McMaster Jr., might run as her lieutenant governor. Trump expressed his admiration for the state, saying, “I LOVE SOUTH CAROLINA!”
Responses from the Candidates
Evette expressed gratitude for Trump’s endorsement, acknowledging the former president’s influence on her political journey. She promised never to let him down.
Meanwhile, Mace acknowledged Trump’s contributions to the country but noted her push for transparency with the Epstein files might have affected her endorsement chances. She emphasized the need for a governor accountable to the people.
Current Polling Data
The Trafalgar Group survey shows Evette leading with 19.9%. Her competitors, including Attorney General Alan Wilson, businessman Rom Reddy, and Congressman Ralph Norman, follow closely. Mace holds 14.6%, and a small percentage remains undecided. This survey involved 1,125 likely Republican primary voters and has a 2.9% margin of error.
Another poll by co/efficient from late April also placed Evette in the lead at 21%. Wilson and Norman followed, with Mace at 12%. Undecided voters made up 22% of respondents. The margin of error for this poll was 3.44% among 813 likely Republican primary voters.
An earlier poll in March by co/efficient had Mace at 22%, slightly ahead of Evette. Over time, Evette gained ground as her support increased by 2% while Mace’s decreased by 5%.
