President Donald Trump began the Great American State Fair with a speech highlighting the progress made in the U.S. under his administration. Drawing parallels to the American Revolution, he addressed a gathering on the National Mall.
“We’ve taken power back from the distant political class,” Trump stated. “Our sovereignty has been reclaimed, liberty restored, and prosperity enhanced. America is once again prioritized.”
The opening ceremony featured Lee Greenwood performing “God Bless the U.S.A.” There were military flyovers, including B-2 bombers and F-35 jets. Trump’s Cabinet members also spoke, with music from the U.S. Marine Band.
“America is back,” Trump exclaimed. “We are the world’s hottest country, respected by all.”
Trump highlighted improvements in the capital, such as the removal of homeless encampments and graffiti, and the repair of over 50 monuments. He noted successful restorations at Union Station, Meridian Hill Park, Lafayette Square, and the Reflecting Pool.
Addressing events at the Reflecting Pool, Trump mentioned, “The vandals have been caught and are being prosecuted. Such things won’t happen to our country.”
He announced future projects, including a new White House ballroom, a “triumphal arc” near Arlington Cemetery, the National Garden of American Heroes, and a “Spirit of ’76” exhibition.
Trump described the 250th anniversary as both a commemoration of America’s history and a launch for a “new golden age.” He stressed the significance of the occasion, “It’s time to be proud of our history and envision America’s potential.”
Joining him were House Speaker Mike Johnson, several Cabinet officials, Congress members, and other dignitaries. Trump expressed excitement about the event, “This is a special night.”
“I’m honored to start the Great American State Fair,” he said, emphasizing the fair’s wide range of attractions.
The fair, running through July 10, features exhibits from all states and territories, military flyovers, music, tech demonstrations, a FIFA fan zone, and an old-fashioned rodeo.
Trump teased a grand Fourth of July celebration on the National Mall, saying he would speak at “the largest fireworks display in history.” Other events include the Patriot Games and the Freedom 250 Grand Prix.
He concluded by celebrating American legacy, recalling the Founding Fathers, the Revolutionary War, and achievements in wars and space exploration. “This is America’s heritage and destiny,” Trump declared. “We are one nation, moving into a magnificent future.”
“Happy birthday, America,” he added.
