President Donald Trump showcased the new Air Force One, a converted former Qatari jumbo jet, at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland. The aircraft features a distinct navy blue underbelly with a red stripe and a large American flag on the tail. The presidential seal adorns the side where the president boards.
Speaking inside the hangar, Trump highlighted the luxurious transformation of the jet, now serving as a temporary presidential aircraft. He announced plans to use the jet for upcoming international summits, including NATO in Ankara, Turkey. Trump’s recent return from the Group of 7 summit in France marked the last trip on the previous Air Force One.
Trump expressed satisfaction with the aircraft’s design, stating that no other nation could surpass its appearance. The new Air Force One is set to perform in July 4 celebrations. This plane acts as a ‘bridge’ aircraft until Boeing delivers new planes in 2028.
The administration accepted the plane from Qatar, raising questions about the legality of the gift. Trump plans to donate it to a presidential library once he leaves office. The Air Force confirmed the plane’s security modifications at a cost below $400 million.
Trump’s vision for the presidential fleet traces back to his first term. He initially proposed a design similar to his personal jet, which was later reversed by President Joe Biden. Upon returning to office, Trump reinstated his preferred color scheme, which will also be applied to other government jets.
The Air Force stated that the current VC-25As will remain in service alongside the new planes. Decisions on aircraft use will consider operational needs, ensuring the Presidential Airlift Group selects appropriate options for each mission.
