Trump’s Approval Ratings Show Slight Improvement
President Donald Trump’s approval rating has reached its highest level in six months, according to the latest Morning Consult Political Intelligence Weekly Tracker. This marks a modest improvement in public sentiment following months of fluctuating support.
The survey reveals that Trump’s job approval has risen compared to earlier readings, achieving its highest net approval rating since the start of the year. Although this increase is small, it signifies a shift in polling trends amidst ongoing challenges on key issues. Recent data from an RMG Research Poll supports this, showing a similar uptrend over the past five months.
However, analysts advise caution in viewing a single poll as a sign of enduring change, as presidential approval ratings can vary week by week. The latest YouGov/Economist survey indicates Trump’s lowest approval rating recently.
Newsweek sought comment from the White House but received no response as of Tuesday.
Recent Polling Details
The Morning Consult tracker lists Trump’s approval at 45.2% and disapproval at 51.9%, translating to a net approval of approximately -7%. Compared to a similar survey from a month prior, Trump’s net approval shows an improvement of about 6%.
The most recent occasion Trump had a net approval of -6.7% or better was January 24, according to Morning Consult statistics, with a net approval of -6.5% at that time.
Grant Reeher, a political science professor at Syracuse University, compared differing poll figures, noting the distinction between registered voters and U.S. citizens. Reeher suggested recent Democratic primary outcomes and international developments, such as the Iran conflict, might have influenced the president’s approval numbers.
Morning Consult’s tracking survey indicates a 43% favorability rating against a 53% unfavorable impression, with 4% unsure. This survey included around 2,200 registered U.S. voters over the week ending July 27 and has a 2% margin of error.
Trump received net positive approvals for immigration and national security. On other topics, like the economy, healthcare, trade, and foreign policy, his ratings remain negative. Despite recent improvements, Trump’s public perception remains varied with significant partisan divides.
Other polls reveal lower approval figures than Morning Consult, illustrating the relevance of averages over single survey reliance. Collectively, current polling depicts a complex political scene.
