Trump’s Tough Stance on Crime Leads to Significant Reductions
President Donald Trump emphasizes his perfectionist approach to combat crime in Washington, D.C. During an interview on ‘Sunday Night in America’ with Trey Gowdy, he discussed targeting repeat offenders as a key strategy for maintaining order. He pointed to the successful cleanup of the nation’s capital and expressed a wish to help other cities achieve similar results.
Bill Maher, a comedian known for his critical views, surprisingly commended Trump’s approach to reducing crime. Maher acknowledged that while his stance may be controversial, it has contributed to a nationwide decrease in violent crime. Maher cited enhanced surveillance technology as another factor in the decline.
While talking on HBO’s ‘Real Time,’ Maher highlighted that crime includes more than drug offenses and credits Trump’s ‘tough-guy’ persona for the results. He recognized both Democratic policies and Trump’s efforts in lowering crime rates.
According to the FBI’s Crime Data Explorer, between June 2025 and May 2026, reported violent crime dropped by 9% nationwide. Specific areas saw notable declines: robbery decreased by 19.4%, murder by 18.7%, rape by 10%, and aggravated assault by 6.2%.
Retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent Jason Pack noted the potential for bipartisan cooperation on crime issues. Despite disagreements on other agenda points, he urged collective efforts to remove violent offenders and create safer neighborhoods. Cooperation among local, state, and federal law enforcement is essential to these efforts.
The White House released a statement applauding the reduction in crime rates. A spokesperson reiterated Trump’s commitment to safety and credited data showing the largest ever decrease in violent crime to Trump’s policies. They contrasted Trump’s support for law enforcement with the approach of ‘Defund-the-Police’ Democrats.
