Despite multiple attempts, the U.S. didn’t record a shot on goal until the 43rd minute. Alex Freeman, the team’s youngest player, netted his first World Cup goal after a video assistant referee (VAR) check reversed an offside call. The goal brought the crowd at Seattle’s Lumen Field to its feet.

Throughout the match, the U.S. maintained over 60% possession, demonstrating their dominant play. Alex Freeman contributed significantly despite the absence of Christian Pulisic, who was sidelined due to a calf injury.

The U.S. leads Group D with six points, having scored a total of six goals in group play, tying their group stage record. Australia is second with three points while Paraguay and Turkey remain winless.

The team could secure a Group D victory with either a win or draw from the upcoming Paraguay vs. Turkey match. A Turkey loss would allow the U.S. to rest key players, including Pulisic, giving Turkey a chance at securing a spot in the next stage.
