According to a statement from U.S. Central Command, forces deployed multiple sea surface drones to attack a submarine and ship maintenance facility located at the Bandar Abbas Naval Base. This base is situated on Iran’s coast in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Video evidence released by CENTCOM showed three small sea drones speeding towards a raised dock, apparently holding a small submarine. The drones then exploded, sending tall plumes of smoke into the air. While the exact damage remains unclear, the final blast appeared to ignite a large fire.

Impact and Manufacturer’s Role

CENTCOM hailed the operation as successful, claiming it diminished Iran’s capacity to threaten commercial shipping in the region. The drones used were Corsair Autonomous Service Vehicles, developed by Saronic, a Texas-based weapons manufacturer.

Saronic expressed pride in supporting the mission and safeguarding U.S. armed forces personnel. As per the company’s website, the 24-foot Corsair drone can carry a payload of up to 1,000 pounds over 1,000 nautical miles at a top speed of 35 knots.

Development and Contract Details

Saronic introduced the sea drone in October 2024, securing a $392 million production contract with the U.S. Navy the following year. The Corsair transitioned from prototype to production in under a year, showcasing rapid development capabilities.
