U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently made a significant appeal to Cubans advocating for change in their country’s political landscape. He urged them to collaborate with the CIA in efforts to shift Cuba from its communist regime.
Rubio posted on X, addressing those seeking reform: “To those who seek to create positive change in Cuba – now is the time.” He emphasized the dissatisfaction with unfulfilled promises, widespread corruption, and the elite’s privileged lifestyles. Rubio encouraged Cubans to seize the opportunity by partnering with the CIA in a discrete manner.
Subsequently, the CIA shared Rubio’s message, both in English and Spanish, calling Cubans to engage with the intelligence agency. A video provided instructions on how to proceed with contacting them.
The persistent U.S. embargo, along with additional sanctions, have severely impacted Cuba. Necessary goods have seen their prices soar, and healthcare access has dwindled. Reports from Cubans describe lengthy waits in bread lines and for medical consultations.
Recently, more sanctions were imposed, targeting Cuba’s state-run bank due to alleged ties with Iran. President Trump, speaking at a rally in South Florida, commented on handling Cuba during operations involving Navy warships near the Strait of Hormuz. He stated, “Those beautiful ships will pass Cuba. We’ll have one of them stop about 50 yards off the coast. They’ll raise up their hands, and then we’re going to send Marco Rubio in to finish up the deal.”
Cuba’s government responded strongly. Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla dismissed the U.S. stance on X, asserting, “We reject any threats stemming from U.S. ambitions toward Cuba.” He highlighted Cuba’s coastal beauty while warning against hostile intentions from outsiders.
