The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially declared Uganda free of Ebola. This announcement follows the discharge of the nation’s final Ebola patient from hospital care on July 16, 2026.
Despite Uganda’s success, the situation in the nearby Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is dire. Local health authorities report at least 2,744 fatalities linked to Ebola. They have confirmed a total of 5,713 cases.
An image captured in May shows workers in Kampala, Uganda, spraying disinfectant while moving the body of a suspected Ebola victim. This illustrates the efforts taken to control the outbreak within the country.
