In a significant escalation, Ukraine launched over 600 drones at Moscow in the early hours of Tuesday, as reported by Russian authorities. Between Monday night and 5 a.m. local time, the drones targeted the Moscow region.
Moscow’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, stated that 620 drones were detected heading towards the area. Approximately 180 drones were destroyed near Moscow.
Additionally, Moscow’s regional governor, Andrey Vorobyov, confirmed that more than 150 drones were shot down around the capital. This incident marks the largest drone attack on Moscow in the last two years, according to Russia’s Tass state news agency.
Ukraine has increasingly used long-range drones against Moscow to highlight the effects of the prolonged conflict, which has persisted for nearly four and a half years.
Russia’s Wildberries, a major online retailer similar to Amazon, reported minor damage to a logistics site near Moscow due to debris hitting a facility wall.
Russia’s defense ministry stated that its air defenses intercepted 791 drones overnight. These interceptions included targets across 15 Russian regions, the annexed Crimean peninsula, and the Azov and Black Seas.
This Ukrainian assault on Russian territory is one of the most substantial attacks this year, Tass mentioned.
The situation continues to develop, with more updates expected.
