USS Theodore Roosevelt Heads to Middle East for Deployment

The aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt is preparing to deploy to the Middle East to relieve another carrier as the U.S. military continues its blockade enforcement in the Arabian Sea. The ship and its strike group will leave San Diego for a deployment of over seven months to join others in the U.S. Central Command (Centcom) theater, as reported by USNI News.
According to a spokesperson for the U.S. Pacific Fleet, discussing future operations or movements is against Navy policy due to security concerns. Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Daryl Caudle acknowledged ongoing conflict and its effects on forces, noting efforts to improve planning certainty. He emphasized the strain on sailors’ families due to the unpredictable nature of deployment extensions.
The USS George Washington, a Nimitz-class carrier, recently arrived in the Middle East, replacing the USS Abraham Lincoln. Media reports have scrutinized conditions aboard the Lincoln and the mental health of its crew, as the ship now moves to Thailand for a visit. The presence of at least one U.S. aircraft carrier in the region follows heightened tensions with Iran, beginning from an event in February. Currently, over 20 U.S. warships participate in the blockade, and Centcom reports redirection of 75 commercial vessels and interventions on several others.
