Vice President JD Vance expressed his eagerness to meet former President Joe Biden during his visit to New York City next week. The visit coincides with the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Vance stated, “I’m really looking forward to hanging out with Joe Biden. I’m sure that we’ll have many, many intense intellectual conversations, and, you know, it’ll be great.” He shared these thoughts while hosting the first White House press briefing since August.
Vice President Vance plans to attend a ceremony at Ground Zero on 9/11. He will be in the company of former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and former First Ladies Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush.

In a news briefing at the White House on September 3, 2026, Vance addressed reporters following a 40-day hiatus in press briefings after former press secretary Karoline Leavitt’s departure. He noted that his last meeting with Biden was during President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025.
Vance revealed that he would be attending the New York event while President Biden would remain in D.C. to honor the events at the Pentagon, emphasizing its significance as part of the 9/11 tragedy.

The remembrance will include President Trump at a ceremony at the Pentagon. Other White House officials will commemorate in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, marking all major locations affected by the attacks. Vance assured that Trump’s decision to stay in the nation’s capital was not driven by security concerns in New York City.
Reflecting on the significance of 9/11, Vance remarked, “I will say that as much as it’s tragic and it was a terrible day, I am looking forward to it because it’s such an amazing honor to be able to get to go to New York and to share in that moment.” He emphasized the importance of showing children the names of the victims, recounting a personal experience with his family during the 2024 campaign.
Vance encouraged all Americans, especially those too young to remember 9/11, to take time to understand the event’s impact. He stated that the tragic day fosters a “sense of commonality and common purpose” among Americans.
