Former NFL Cornerback Alphonso Smith Jr. Found Dead Amid Mysterious Circumstances

Former NFL cornerback Alphonso Smith Jr. was discovered dead in a Florida community on Wednesday. This tragic event occurred just hours after Smith allegedly posted a self-critical message on social media, hinting at past child abuse and demonic possession. The post contained a somber implication, with its last line ominously stating, “This is it.”

A family member, choosing anonymity, confirmed Smith’s death to OutKick. The exact cause of death remains unconfirmed, though TMZ suggested suicide. OutKick could not independently verify this claim.

The manner of Smith’s death remains uncertain, but the content of his final Facebook post was undeniably a plea for help. “Do not cry for me! I tried everything in my power to fight the demons behind the ones that someone put into ME!,” Smith wrote. He expressed deep regret for perceived failures, calling himself a coward and seeking forgiveness from those he had hurt.

Smith addressed family and friends, including his children, perhaps offering a farewell. “To my kids, daddy is SO SORRY!” he apologized. He acknowledged his troubled past, referencing an older woman who harmed him as a child, leading to a cycle of pain inflicted on others.

“Please pray over your families! PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL I’ve affected!”

Smith, originating from Pahokee, Florida, was a celebrated defensive back at Wake Forest. He set a school record with 21 interceptions. The Denver Broncos picked him 37th overall in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft, later trading him to the Detroit Lions after his rookie season. Across his four-year NFL career, Smith played 42 games, starting in 11. He recorded 88 tackles and eight interceptions during his tenure.

Days before his death, Smith was seen in a video offering to buy breakfast for a neighbor, suggesting a complex personal struggle. Despite his successes on the field, Smith seemingly carried unresolved personal burden throughout his life.
