Vice President Vance and Task Force Identify $230 Billion in Fraud

Vice President JD Vance, who leads the task force under President Donald Trump dedicated to eliminating fraud, announced significant findings on Wednesday. His team has isolated $230 billion in suspected fraudulent activities so far.

During a task-force roundtable with lawmakers, Vance stated, “We’ve been able to stop $56 billion in fraudulent payments that would’ve otherwise been misdirected.” His remarks emphasized the need for structural reforms to combat these fraudulent practices.

He further explained challenges faced in federal programs. When distributing funds to states for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), there’s a lack of transparency about the beneficiaries. Vance illustrated, “If California provides those food stamp benefits to an illegal alien or a violent criminal, the federal government has no visibility, and sometimes the states themselves lack visibility.” He called for legislation that mandates data sharing between state and federal authorities.

Looking ahead, Vance plans to host members of Congress at the White House to discuss legislative measures against fraud.

In addition to data sharing, Vance suggested the introduction of stricter penalties for those convicted of fraud. White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller supported this approach. He advocated for “strict, clear, mandatory minimums” for fraudsters, promoting substantial prison sentences. Miller noted, “This change would be crucial for combating fraud, as prosecuting a few hundred or thousand cases each year could deter millions of potential criminal activities.”
