Virginia health officials announced on Tuesday the detection of the state’s first locally acquired dengue case. A resident, who had not traveled outside Virginia, was likely infected by a mosquito. This mosquito may have previously bitten an individual carrying the virus.
Currently, officials report no ongoing transmission, and there are no new cases of locally acquired dengue. Authorities are actively monitoring the situation to prevent further infections.
This case highlights the importance of vigilance and preventive measures against mosquito-borne diseases. Dengue is spread mainly by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, known for their capability to transmit various viral illnesses.
