A group of civil rights and advocacy organizations is preparing to send hundreds of poll watchers to minority-heavy precincts this fall. This move is in response to perceived voter intimidation threats from President Donald Trump’s administration.
The Vote Safe project aims to deploy observers in precincts across four key battleground states. The project’s leaders are worried about the possibility of federal agents appearing at polling stations, which they believe could deter voters from participating in the election process.
These concerns arise from the administration’s stance—the government has not yet dismissed the idea of stationing federal agents at polling locations.
In August, individuals cast their votes in Oak Park, Michigan, showcasing the democratic process amid these challenges.
