Warning Issued After Kratom Packages Found in Ole Miss Student Death Investigations
Two students from the University of Mississippi have died, prompting officials to issue a warning after discovering packaged kratom products during investigations. Authorities emphasize that no direct link between kratom and the deaths is yet established.
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office is handling separate investigations into the deaths. Although kratom was found in both instances, there is no evidence that it or any other substance contributed to the fatalities. Investigators continue to review the circumstances, and authorities are urging caution and not to jump to conclusions about the causes.
Public safety officials responded to a potential overdose situation at Stewart Hall on the Ole Miss campus shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Monday. The student involved was unresponsive and received CPR. Few details are available about the second student’s death.
Efforts to enhance overdose prevention are being intensified by campus, local, and state officials. The Oxford Police Department and the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office have been contacted for further information as the story unfolds.
