Washington Commanders linebacker Leo Chenal left Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks due to a neck injury. He was carted off the field but managed to move his extremities, giving a reassuring fist pump and wave.
Chenal sustained the injury while tackling Seahawks running back Emanuel Wilson. He led with his head, resulting in neck compression. After the hit, Chenal collapsed and lay motionless briefly. Teammates gathered around as medical staff attended to him. He was secured on a spine board before being carted away.
The Commanders confirmed Chenal would not return to the game. Coach Dan Quinn appeared visibly affected by the event. This adds to the team’s challenges following quarterback Jayden Daniels’ elbow dislocation last week. Similar scenes unfolded as Daniels was carted off in Arlington, Texas.
Despite the setbacks, the Commanders showed resilience. They led the Seahawks, the reigning Super Bowl champions, 24-10 in the second half. Marcus Mariota, substituting for Daniels, threw three touchdown passes.
The Commanders announced that Daniels’ recovery does not require surgery and he is expected to return in a month.
