Whole Foods describes it as a “cult favorite,” and customer feedback supports this claim. A Reddit thread asked if the cake was worth trying, receiving high praise from users.

TikTok reviewer @leiahwithdacamry described the cake as “healthy almost, but it’s still sweet and good.” Whole Foods markets it nationwide as its top-selling cake, detailing its origins on the company website.

Initially introduced 13 years ago at the Arabella Station store in New Orleans, the recipe was developed by bakery team member Chaya Conrad. Based on her grandmother’s original creation, it quickly became popular, spreading across the South and eventually, the entire country.

In 2024, however, some customers expressed discontent on social media, claiming changes to the cake’s recipe. Whole Foods acknowledged aligning its flavor and packaging, responding to customer feedback by reintroducing single slices.

The cake also supports Whole Foods’ new initiative: the Next Generation Farmer Fund. In August, 1% of Berry Chantilly Cake sales contribute to funding and helping farmers under 40 with sustainable farming practices.
