Wisconsin Gubernatorial Candidate Faces Questions on Endorsements

Wisconsin Democratic socialist candidate Francesca Hong addressed questions regarding the lack of endorsement from prominent progressive figures Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Bernie Sanders ahead of the state’s gubernatorial primary. Asked about their absence of support, Hong expressed admiration for both lawmakers, acknowledging their efforts to secure Democratic victories in Congress and the Senate during the midterms. She hopes to discuss these matters with them in the future.

Pressed further on whether their non-endorsement suggested doubts about her chances to win, Hong explained that state gubernatorial races differ from federal elections and have unique dynamics.

In an interview on ABC’s “This Week,” Ocasio-Cortez confirmed she had not endorsed Hong, citing her focus on regaining control of Congress and the Senate. She clarified her understanding that Hong has addressed previous controversial remarks and shifted her stance to resonate with her constituents.

Commenting on a “wokeness” related question, Hong responded that people are beginning to see systemic economic inequalities affecting the working class. She promised to advocate for policies such as taxing the ultra-wealthy, halting new data centers, raising wages, supporting universal childcare, and ensuring proper funding for public schools.

Hong faces competition from Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, state Sen. Kelda Roys, and former Secretary of Wisconsin’s Department of Administration, Joel Brennan, in the primary elections.
