Earlier this month, a dramatic high-speed chase in Wisconsin captured headlines, featuring a car going airborne. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office released footage showing the fleeing driver launching his vehicle over another, creating a scene reminiscent of a Hollywood stunt.
The chase occurred on the morning of May 9, when the Wisconsin State Patrol attempted to stop a car due to an active felony warrant. Backup was called, and as a Fond du Lac County sheriff’s deputy and another trooper responded, the driver, identified as 44-year-old Dewayne Stokes, sped away.
The pursuit continued for four and a half miles until Stokes lost control of his vehicle. He veered into a ditch and accelerated up an embankment, causing his car to leap over another vehicle. The car traversed the road and landed in a field on the other side.
Despite the crash, Stokes attempted to flee on foot. Officers used a Taser to subdue him before taking him into custody. He sustained minor injuries and received medical attention at a hospital.
Stokes faced seven charges, including first-degree reckless endangering safety and multiple counts of eluding an officer. His cash bond was set at $25,000, and he was scheduled to appear in court on June 24. At the time of the incident, he was out on bond for operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent and had missed a court date, leading to a warrant for his arrest.
