New York Yankees star pitcher Cam Schlittler made headlines with a standout performance both on and off the field. At 25, Schlittler achieved a career milestone by striking out 13 batters in six scoreless innings, leading the Yankees to a 5-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds at Yankee Stadium. His impact extended beyond the diamond as he engaged with fans on social media.
As a native of Walpole, Massachusetts, Schlittler faced criticism from a persistent Boston Red Sox fan since last October’s AL Wild Card Game. Schlittler silenced the Red Sox with 12 strikeouts in eight innings during that game. However, criticism from Boston fans persisted. Following his recent performance, Schlittler addressed one fan’s ongoing taunts.
“Rent Free,” Schlittler wrote on Instagram, accompanied by laughing emojis, after sharing a screen recording of the fan’s insults.
This fan, using the handle “Kyle_Lynch11,” began his verbal jabs on Wild Card day, labeling Schlittler a ‘clown.’ The messages continued for months, even mocking Schlittler’s attire. Schlittler eventually replied, saying, “Stop glazing lil bro.”
Undeterred, Lynch predicted that the Reds would triumph over Schlittler, a claim that proved incorrect. Schlittler’s performance solidified his American League-leading ERA at an impressive 1.71, with an 8-3 record and 109 strikeouts over 95 innings.
Among the relentless comments, Schlittler disclosed receiving more severe threats from some Red Sox fans, including targeting his family. Yet, he remains a formidable presence in the league with his effective mix of fastball, sinker, and cutter pitches.
