Floyd Mayweather, known for his immense wealth, is now in legal trouble. He allegedly wrote a bad check for a luxury watch in Las Vegas, putting him at risk for serious prison time.
Charges against Mayweather include theft of property over $100,000 and passing a fraudulent check. These issues began during a New Year’s Eve shopping trip in 2024 when he aimed to acquire a rare Audemars Piguet watch.
Mayweather reportedly used a $200,000 check from his Wells Fargo account to pay. The bank, however, returned the check due to insufficient funds. The store spent over a year seeking payment and even sent a certified demand letter, which Mayweather allegedly ignored.
This led to a criminal summons. Mayweather’s legal team appeared in Las Vegas court for him. If found guilty, Mayweather faces up to 24 years in prison for both felony charges.
The $200,000 check issue is part of a larger financial problem. Mayweather is overwhelmed with debts, including a $7 million tax lien from the IRS for unpaid taxes. He also owes $1 million in back child support and is facing lawsuits related to unpaid private jet services and rent for a luxury Manhattan apartment.
The boxing legend, who once enjoyed immense wealth, has lined up several exhibition matches, including a much-anticipated rematch with Manny Pacquiao in September. However, his financial troubles remain a significant concern.
