The Batavia Moose Lodge hosted its fourth annual car show Saturday, attracting a crowd eager to see a variety of vintage and modern cars. The event took place at the lodge located at 1535 S. Batavia Ave, just outside downtown Batavia.
Among the attendees were Lily Sullivan and Preston Bernatek, both car enthusiasts. Lily, whose daily commute includes driving an ND Miata, shared her passion for car shows. She attends around six shows a year, enjoying the camaraderie of fellow car lovers who display their vehicles and engage in discussions about their shared interest.
According to Marty Hamilton, a Moose member from Elburn, car shows are effective in attracting visitors and raising funds. He highlighted the event’s role in fostering community spirit through shared activities.
The event featured giveaways, food, beverages, and served as a fundraiser for the Mooseheart Kids Christmas Fund. Participants paid an entry fee of $15 in advance or $20 on the day of the event. The fundraiser supports children who lack families to spend Christmas with.
Organizer Alissa Roy explained that the initiative was inspired by her fiancé, a car mechanic with a passion for cars. She detailed the Christmas activities at the lodge, including buying personalized gifts and providing necessary items for each child’s home.
In previous years, the event raised approximately $25,000, averaging around 120 cars, ranging from new Ferraris to classic models. This year’s show continued that tradition with a variety of cars exhibited.
John Bonner from Plainfield showcased his striking green 2007 Bentley. Bonner enjoys the attention the vibrant color attracts, describing his Bentley as a “green highlighter going down the road.”
Preston Bernatek shared his personal journey into car enthusiasm, sparked by a neighbor and further fueled by video games. His passion matured through high school experiences, culminating in acquiring his own Corvette and attending car shows.
Overall, the car show was a successful community event, bringing together car enthusiasts and contributing to charitable causes.
