Actor and comedian Nate Bargatze recently appeared on ‘Fox & Friends’ to discuss his new film The Breadwinner and his style of clean comedy. Bargatze aims to create family-friendly entertainment and has announced plans for ‘Nateland,’ a $350 million theme park in Nashville.
Bargatze recently attended the UFC 250 event, held to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. This event took place at the White House, featuring numerous guests from various fields. Bargatze, who stays away from political topics in his performances, was seen at the event, drawing criticism from some quarters.
Former television host W. Kamau Bell criticized Bargatze for his attendance, labeling it as an association with fascism. Bell argued in a Substack post that those who visit places where ‘fascists’ gather are aligning themselves with them, unless they have a substantial reason to do so.
“If you don’t want to be a member of Team Fascism, then after we see you with fascists, it is up to you to actively and immediately begin digging yourself out of the fascism hole and working your way back to the correct side of history,” Bell wrote.
Bell’s comments suggest that mere presence at certain events could imply political alignment. His post was widely shared, reflecting strong reactions on social media. Critics, including The Daily Beast, agreed with Bell’s assessment.
Many argue that attendance at an event is not necessarily an endorsement of a political administration or its policies. Athletes visiting the White House for championship celebrations don’t face the same level of scrutiny. Some believe Bell’s reaction is disproportionate and reflects a broader trend of cancel culture, where public personalities are expected to take political stands.
The debate over Bargatze’s White House appearance highlights ongoing tensions about political expression and cancel culture. Ian Miller of OutKick argues that society should move beyond these debates, emphasizing that attending an event shouldn’t result in being labeled politically.
