Glenview’s July Fourth Parade Celebrates Amid Stormy Weather
Glenview’s July Fourth parade filled Harlem Avenue with excitement. Marching bands energized the crowd, and children eagerly collected candy thrown from floats. The parade, starting at 11:20 a.m. on a Saturday, embraced an America 250 theme. Although ‘semiquincentennial’ didn’t fit on banners, many units displayed signs with 250, marking 250 years since the nation’s founding in 1776.
Weather conditions threatened parade plans in Chicago suburbs. Northbrook canceled its 4 p.m. parade when storm clouds loomed. Wilmette axed holiday events at Gillson Park on July 3, scrapping planned live music and fireworks. Park Ridge began its fireworks early at 8:10 p.m. to smaller crowds, finishing before rain hit.
Celebrations at Glenview’s 2026 July Fourth parade included a member of the Malayalees India parade unit handing out treats to children. Numerous floats and marching participants shared candy and toys with the young spectators. The parade’s interactions brought added joy to the event.
Weather disrupted several suburban events. Evanston’s concert at Arrington Lagoon was scrapped due to water pooling. The city also ended its parade at 3:45 due to distant lightning, allowing attendees time to reach safety. Winnetka canceled pre-fireworks activities, keeping Duke Childs field closed until 8:30 p.m., just ahead of the fireworks. Skokie Park District canceled face painting and the bounce house, yet planned to hold fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
Despite downpours earlier in the day, many suburbs continued with evening fireworks. As rain diminished by Saturday night, the celebrations lit up the skies punctually.
