After several weeks of intense ice hockey, the Stanley Cup Playoffs have narrowed down to a final four. Two teams are competing in the Western Conference while two are seeking victory in the East.
Top NHL Team Remaining
As we approach Wednesday’s conference finals, here’s an analysis of the remaining teams:
1. Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes rank first, maintaining a flawless record with no losses this postseason. While the Montreal Canadiens and Buffalo Sabres fought through Game 7 series, the Hurricanes seemed to breeze through their matchups, appearing well-rested.
Carolina’s 34-year-old star, Taylor Hall, is performing like his younger self when he was considered a rising star for the Edmonton Oilers. Although it’s unlikely that they will remain undefeated through the series with Montreal, they are favored to emerge victoriously in the East.
2. Colorado Avalanche
While the Hurricanes boast the top playoff record, the Avalanche delivered an outstanding performance by defeating the Minnesota Wild in the conference semifinals. However, being fully fit, the Avalanche would take precedence over Carolina. Their current second position is attributed to Cale Makar’s absence in Game 1 of the Western finals due to an undisclosed injury. This development could impact Colorado’s championship ambitions.
3. Montreal Canadiens
Montreal is persistently pushing through challenges. Both series progressed to Game 7, including a recent overtime win against Buffalo on the road.
The Canadiens are accelerating beyond expectations and are poised for improvements in the next seasons. Nevertheless, they have a chance to claim victory now. With Lane Hutson leading in postseason points at 22 and Alex Newhook scoring the decisive OT goal at 25, Montreal’s future is promising, irrespective of their upcoming clash with the Hurricanes.
4. Vegas Golden Knights
Las Vegas’s team performance is noteworthy. Though Mitch Marner is excelling, the team faced struggles reaching Game 6 against the Utah Mammoth and Anaheim Ducks, which were not seen as strong contenders.
In the conference finals, the Golden Knights face a formidable opponent in the Avalanche. The challenge ahead is significantly greater compared to their prior series.
